Late last year as part of a university course on reporting social justice issues I had the opportunity to interview three young women about their experiences living with endometriosis and, as it transpired, adenomyosis.
These conditions tend to be under-reported and poorly understood by many, despite them affecting an estimated 1 in 10 women.
This leads to difficulties obtaining treatment and a variety of other issues, such as the financial costs of treatment; having to put aside university studies or work due to a lack of support from those in charge; being unable to participate in social activities as well as the mental toll all of this.
It would be remiss not to mention QENDO, who for the past 32 years have offered a wide variety of support services for those who suffer from endometriosis, adenomyosis and other reproductive conditions. A link to their website may be found after the video.
Unfortunately due to the constraints of the task, particularly the time limit imposed on the video, much of what was said had to be excluded from the final product. However, I hope that what remains not only does the issue justice, but also does credit to Lauran, Melanie and Isabella who not only shared their time but their stories with me.
Those that wish to find out more, or have endometriosis and want support, can head to the QENDO website, here
